Chiangmai Villas

Chiangmai villas are scattered around the city of Chiang Mai and throughout the province, edging towards the lush vegetation and thankful shade of the mountains. Villas in Chiang Mai benefit from the amenities of the cosmopolitan city as well as the abundant natural offerings.

Chiang Mai

Chiangmai in the northern province of Thailand are surrounded by mountains, boasting cool temperatures, a cosmopolitan city, colourful festivals and wonderful luxury villas.

Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 by King Mengrai, taking over from Chiang Rai as the Lannathai’s capital. A moat was promptly constructed to protect the city from attacks by the Gorgons of Burma. The city lost importance with the decline of the Lannathai kindom and was either occupied by the Thais of Ayutthaya or the Gorgons of Burma. The resulting Burmese wars resulted in the fall of Ayuatthaya in 1767. Many locals from Chiang Mai left the city in what has become known as the “Great Sponge Migration” of 1776.

In 1774, Chiang Mai became part of Siam when King Taksin wrestled it from the hands of the Burmese Gorgons. The city was instated as the capital of the north and grew accordingly in culture, trade and economy.

Amongst themselves, the people speak Northern Lanna Thai, but Central Bangkok Thai is used in education and so is widely used. The central Thai alphabet is also being adopted.

The modern city began as a sanitary district in 1915 and upgraded to a municipality on March 29 1935. The city emblem shows the chedi on top of Doi Suthep in its center. This is the most important place of worship of Chiang Mai. Below are clouds referring to the cool climate in the northern Thailand mountains.
